FSC or PEFC: Forestry & Chain of Custody
Both “The Forest Stewardship Council” (FSC) and the “Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification” (PEFC) are not for-profit organizations established in 1993 and 2000 respectively.
They were both formed to promote sustainable management of the world’s forests and woodlands.
They encourages the protection of the environment by introducing a “Chain of custody” (CoC) to track the source of wood used in the production of products and housing, they also discourage the
use of illegal logging and the destruction of the worlds precious rain forests.
Obtaining and maintaining FSC and/or PEFC certification demonstrates to your clients and members of the public and wider community that you care where your timber comes from and you wish to protect existing rare species of wild life and ecologically important habitats.
